Focus vs Energy

For knowledge work, focus is usually the bottleneck, not raw energy.

Which one are you short on?

If your work happens mostly in your head, the thing that limits your best days is often focus, not energy. You can be plenty awake and still unable to hold a single thread of thought for twenty minutes.

Why the distinction helps

Treating a focus problem with more stimulants tends to add restlessness, not clarity. Focus responds better to protecting attention: fewer inputs, single-tasking, and a brain that's well-fed and well-rested.

Practical takeaway

Before your next deep-work block, ask whether you actually need more energy or just fewer distractions and a clearer target. Usually it's the latter.
