Prebiotic vs Probiotic

They sound alike and do opposite jobs. Here's the difference in one read.

Two different roles

Probiotics are beneficial live microorganisms. Prebiotics are the fibers that feed them. One adds to the community; the other feeds the community you already have.

Why both come up together

Adding probiotics without also feeding them is like planting seeds without watering. Many people support their gut with both a fiber source (prebiotic) and, where it fits, a probiotic.

Keeping it simple

You don't need to overthink the ratio. A fiber-forward diet covers a lot of the prebiotic side, and a probiotic can be added if you're looking to support a balanced microbiome. If you have a medical gut condition, talk to a professional first.
